Texas REALTORS® offers opportunities for you to enhance your skills as a leader, whether in your community, at your REALTOR® association, or in your business.

Texas REALTORS® Leadership Mentor Program

You can also grow as a leader by learning how to get involved in the REALTOR® association through the Texas REALTORS® Leadership Mentor Program. The program requires you to complete a self-paced education series, Guide to Association Involvement, before being matched with a seasoned leader whose expertise is relevant to your interests.

You and your mentor—who also must complete the Guide to Association Involvement series—will have three months together to focus on your goals in association involvement. Mentors and mentees are matching on a quarterly basis.

When you complete the Guide to Association Involvement courses, you will receive a link to apply to be a mentor or mentee.

Texas REALTORS® Leadership Program

The Texas REALTORS® Leadership Program (TRLP) prepares you to lead in local, state, and national association committees. The program provides participants with lectures, speakers, and exercises that address vital issues affecting you and your industry. The TRLP offers participants and graduates—more than 2,500—ongoing opportunities to meet other motivated REALTORS® and share learning experiences that focus on community issues and leadership skills.

With the TRLP, you will:

Learn to be an effective spokesperson
Hone your management skills
Build relationships within your community
Learn good decision-making skills as a leader
Gain an understanding of your association’s political involvement
Learn about the management and governance of your association

Leadership Mentor Program FAQs
- Why isn’t the program longer? Three months isn’t enough.
  
  Committing either party to a longer relationship could be counterproductive. Also, most Mentees need help with focusing their goals; therefore, a limited time with a deadline is best. Lastly, Mentors and Mentees are free to continue their relationship as they choose.
- I want to know more about my mentee before I speak with them. Why can’t I ask around about them?
  
  It’s important to get to know your Mentee on a personal level. The best way to do that is without any preconceived notions about the other person.
- What’s the next step after I finish three months as a mentee?
  
  You may want to think about what you have to offer as a Mentor, and if is something you would like to do, you could volunteer. Also, consider participating in the Texas REALTORS® Leadership Program, NAR’s L.E.A.D.S. courses, or other leadership development opportunities.
- Can I do it again with a new mentor?
  
  Yes. You may apply to be a Mentee as many times as you like, but a second or third Mentor might not have anything new to offer. It may be best to focus on the goals and plan you have developed thus far. However, if you have succeeded in your goals and are ready to move to the next level of leadership (TR or NAR), it may be appropriate to match up with a new Mentor with the “next level” of knowledge. Please, keep in mind that Mentors are limited, and Mentees who have not previously completed the program will have priority.
- I need my mentor to help with my business. Why can’t they do that?
  
  This program is specifically for leadership development with the Associations of REALTORS®. Mentors are not vetted for business acumen or real estate knowledge. Real estate questions should always be directed to your Broker or Office Manager. If you need a business coach, your Broker/Office Manager may be able to suggest a coach for you.
- My mentor/mentee has not contacted me. What do I do?
  
  Reach out to them, if calling doesn’t work, then send a text or email. Occasionally, the Mentor/Mentee has missed the email with the match information. Please be patient and remember after you make first contact with your Mentor or Mentee you can discuss the best modes of communication for the both of you.
