How do I get my earnest money back?We recently had a pre-approved mortgage from the buyer fall through. The buyer is now refusing to sign the earnest money over to us, even though we’re entitled to the money. We’ve been told it could take two years to get our money unless the buyer signs the release. Do we have to pay the option fee in two days?We’re submitting an offer to buy a house. We noticed the contract says that the option fee must be delivered within two days of the effective date of the contract if we want a termination option. If the seller agrees, can we change that to four days? Read more.

Does the buyer get his earnest money when he backs out of the contract?I’m selling my home. An agent for a potential buyer told me that her buyer can back out of the sales contract any time for any reason. She also said that I wouldn’t get to keep the earnest money deposit. Is this true? Read more.
