Dear George: I want to invest in real estate, but my husband does not. He has forbidden me to use his name, credit score, or money for any purchase. Can I move forward? And will this purchase be community property?

Answer: Yes, you can purchase property on your own. Yes, any property acquired during marriage is community property. You should get legal help with this purchase, as there are ownership and probate issues that cannot be taken lightly. You want to be very careful not to create contestable issues in the event of death or divorce.
