Pay your homeowners dues

According to the Community Association Institute, nearly one in six American families lives in a neighborhood that has a homeowners association. Depending on the association, the dues may be mandatory or optional. If you plan to buy a home in a neighborhood that has one, consider joining – even if it’s optional. Paying your dues keeps you up-to-date on what’s happening in your community. It may also give you access to amenities you otherwise might not have been able to afford.
