REAL TipS: BUYING

Planning your home purchase

Purchasing your first home may be one of the most important decisions you will make in your lifetime. Proper planning – both short- and long-term – can help you in your home-purchase decision.

There are a number of things to consider that might affect your decision to buy a particular size of house, including your budget, current location, job security, possibility of work-required relocation, and children. If you buy a home that fits your life today but plan to expand your family in the future, you may have to make a choice between adding on to an existing home or moving up in the market to a bigger house. “Trading up” or adding on at a later date may cost you more than buying a larger, more expensive home today. On the other hand, you don’t want to buy more house than you need if you don’t think you will use the space later – or if you think your may be stretching your budget too thin.
