Contrary to popular belief, swimming pools often do not add significant value to a home. In fact, some families even avoid purchasing a home with a pool because of the well-publicized safety issues concerning young children and/or pets. Consequently, owning a house with a pool in the back may reduce the number of potential buyers when you try to resell. If you want a pool, do so for yourself. Don't look at it as a way to boost your property's resale value.
