Re-key it

Nancy K. Nienstedt | Schoolcraft Realty, Universal City

Once you close on your property, consider re-keying the locks. Even new homes should be re-keyed, since there is usually a master key to allow inspections and repairs. Some builders say that when new homeowners insert their key into the lock, it voids the master key. But this may not always be the case. For safety and peace of mind, consider re-keying your new home immediately following closing.
