Selling it yourself may not save you money

Daniel W. Baker | Stanfield REALTORS®, Arlington

In an effort to save money, many consumers these days are considering selling their homes themselves. In many cases, the opposite occurs. It has been proven time and again that the marketing and negotiation services provided by a real estate agent can actually bring in enough money to cover the agent's fees and, in many cases, even more.

Unless you are prepared to perform a comprehensive market analysis for your home to determine its value, you might price it too low — giving away equity — or too high, which will waste enormous amounts of your time as you attempt to find someone willing to overpay for your home. You think you'll save money by selling your home yourself, but you'll likely cover those fees many times over by letting a REALTOR® negotiate the sale for you.
