The most important advice from an experienced homeowner

My parents have bought and sold their fair share of properties. And even though we moved a lot when I was younger, my parents have lived in their current home for 12 years (a record). They just sold that house and have purchased their sixth in another state, set to move in just a few weeks.

Recently, I was chatting with my dad about his experience with buying and selling so many homes, and there was one thing he said that resonated with me most.

“I’ve always used a REALTOR® when I buy or sell houses, and I always will.” He said that a REALTOR® knows exactly how to help buyers and sellers deal with getting the right paperwork together, the right parties involved, and the right information about the homebuying or selling process. “If you don’t value your time, then don’t use a REALTOR®,” he said.

As someone who has years of experience purchasing and selling homes – and who you would think has some tips on how you can do it by yourself – it was surprising to hear that he always uses a REALTOR®.

My dad’s advice reiterates the value of getting a Texas REALTOR® when I buy my first home. A Texas REALTOR® will help me understand the buying process while saving me time and handling potential hiccups along the way.

But don’t worry, dad … I’ll still need your help with everything else.
