You won’t get help if you don’t ask

You may think all the homebuyer-assistance programs vanished when lending standards tightened – and you’d be wrong.

There are programs for veterans, for buyers who plan to buy and rehab a home, for buyers who work in specific industries, for first-time buyers. You might qualify for downpayment or closing-cost assistance, relaxed loan qualifications, reduced-rate mortgages, and other help. And these types of programs are available in cities across the state.

So, where do you start looking? Go to TxHomePrograms.org, a site that aggregates programs from many different sources in Texas.

Also, ask your Texas REALTOR®, who will know of programs offered in your area.

The criteria for these programs vary, and, sure, you may not qualify for any available programs … but you might. You just have to ask.
