Last December, my husband and I were visiting Texas and had no idea if we’d be living here in the new year. Outside of meeting with potential employers, we had only one other important meeting to attend before we left town: An afternoon out with a Texas REALTOR®.
This Texas REALTOR® happily took time out of his day to show us the city we hoped to live in, but had no timeline for when. He drove us around different neighborhoods, gave us an idea of price ranges, the lowdown on nearby things to do, and great insights into the homebuying process.
I should add that we planned to rent before buying and he doesn’t work with rental properties – but he didn’t mind. There aren’t many professionals who would give so freely of their time and expertise with seemingly little upfront return, but I don’t think the Texas REALTOR® who helped us is a rarity. Since we were honest and direct with him about our needs and plans, he was able to determine how he could best assist us.
And without him, we’d have no idea what neighborhoods to look for rentals in while we searched long distance, or how much we should be saving to buy in the neighborhood we love most. The Texas REALTOR® who showed us around town last year is No. 1 on our list of who to contact when we start our home search.
Of course Texas REALTORS® are a great resource when it comes to buying or selling property, but often their helpfulness and skill extends beyond that. Many are willing to assist people like my husband and me. So if you’re planning to move, don’t forget to make an appointment with a Texas REALTOR®. Let her know about your situation and other information pertaining to your move, and she’ll let you know how she can help. What she offers might surprise you.
