April is fair housing month
This year marks the 39th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, which ensures Americans have equal access to housing of their choice free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, disability, familial status, and national origin. Texas REALTORS® are gearing up for Fair Housing Month in April by encouraging Texans to join together in celebrating the diversity of the Lone Star State.
The U.S. Housing and Urban Development marks the anniversary of the Fair Housing Act passed in 1968. This landmark legislation helps foster diverse communities, so people of every race or ethnicity can take part in the American Dream of homeownership. All real estate brokers and agents must follow the fair-housing law, which covers specific classes of people. Those who choose to be Texas REALTORS® pledge to abide by a code of ethics, keeping issues of fairness to everyone at the forefront of their business.
