Texas REALTORS® commended Gov. Greg Abbott for declaring property tax reform an emergency item for the 86th Texas Legislature during his State of the State address on Tuesday.

“We appreciate Gov. Abbott’s leadership on improving the property tax process for our state’s taxpayers,” said Tray Bates, 2019 Texas REALTORS® chairman.

“Making the issue an emergency item enables lawmakers to waste no time in working toward solutions on behalf of Texas property owners.”

Texas REALTORS® believe taxpayers deserve more clarity in the process that is leading to increasing tax burdens across the state.

“As the leading advocates for Texas property owners, our association supports ensuring a more honest and transparent conversation occurs at the local level when tax rates are set,” Bates said.

“Property tax reform has been a top priority for Texas Realtors for years, and we look forward to working with Gov. Abbott and the members of the 86th Texas Legislature to find solutions.”
