Myssie began working as a file clerk and runner for Stewart Title and Hidalgo County Abstract and Title Company. While in College, she was recruited by the University to work for the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development. She later took her experience and was hired by various neighboring cities in Hidalgo County to work in their Economic Development Corporations as Marketing Director and/or Project Manager until she was hired by the Hunt Family where she led the residential development marketing for the region’s first Master Planned Community, Sharyland Plantation, lobbying community and State elected leaders for funding of projects like the Anzalduas International Bridge, I-69 and various Enterprise Zones, TIRZ and TIFs and generating community buy-in for demand of new construction homes in the development. All this time, she had also helped her family real estate office with clerical assistance and placed having a baby as a priority. Myssie became a full-time TEXAS REALTOR® after the birth of her 2nd son. She became a GRI in her first year and earned “rookie Realtor of the year”. She earned her e-Pro certification and Broker’s license shortly afterwards. Myssie went inactive when her mother, a partnering associate Broker in her office, fell victim to cancer. After some time lapsed, she was then recruited to return to real estate as the Team Leader for Keller Williams Realty RGV where after just one short year, decided that she needed to be back out listing and selling as an active agent. Due to her inactive status, she humbled herself and began from square one all over again to work herself up and fully understand all that has evolved in the real estate industry. She immediately immersed herself in the field, became actively involved in her local association and has been elected and appointed by her fellow peers in various offices and committees. Myssie Cardenas-Barajas is highly respected in the industry and offers her advice and experience to all who ask.
About Me
Myssie is a 3rd generation TEXAS REALTOR®, a graduate of the most prestigious leadership training academy in the real estate industry, NARLA class of 2023, REALTOR® of the Year for 2021 and the currently sits on the Executive Leadership team as Recording Secretary at the Greater McAllen Association of REALTORS®. Although her grandfather began the family legacy in 1947, she made it a point to learn as much about her local real estate community as she could before even being able to get her license. From working with title companies, mortgage, KB Home construction, almost every local Economic Development Corporation and even the Hunt Family while developing the regions first master planned community, Sharyland Plantation. Myssie is extremely involved in the community, various charity organizations, her church – Holy Spirit Catholic Church, ACTs retreat, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and is currently the PTO President for her son’s high school. She is well known for and often seen running marathons and triathlons as a tribute to honor her mother, Mimi Cardenas – Realtor of the Year 2006, and fundraising in her memory to help others who have been hurt by cancer. Myssie was honored by the American Cancer Society as the 2015 Cattle Baron’s Ball Honoree and was the first and currently only Triple Crown winner (completing 1 full marathon, 1 Olympic triathlon and 1 100-mile century ride in 1 year) in South Texas for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. You can find her delivering warm nutritious meals every Tuesday to McAllen’s local homeless through Emily’s Meals – a group of people recognized nationally by Good Morning America for making tremendous positive strides in the local homeless population and transitioning them into the community. She’s been feeding the homeless with Emily’s Meals since 2018.

She also sits as a member of the Federal Financing and Housing Committee for NAR and is a member of he NARLA Class of 2023. Myssie is a perpetual student and aspires to follow in the footsteps of her mother, father, brother, uncle, aunt and grandfather. She hopes to pave the way for her two sons, Xzavier Michael and Xander Mitchel, and her husband of 29 years, Xavier Barajas – when he retires – to join her in the family business.
As you can see, Myssie has a legacy of big shoes to fill. Because of that, she values each of her clients and believes that good old fashioned customer service, good manners, professional courtesy and timely communication is important and strives to reflect each of these traits in all of her dealings. Her exceptional use of technology and marketing experience are utilized creatively for each listing and/or for researching properties and comparables for her clients and customers.
If experience, genuine kindness, professional courtesy, problem solving, a strong belief in equality, integrity and an overall win-win attitude are traits you are looking for in a Realtor® that you want representing you in what would likely be one of the largest purchases and/or sales of your life, you may want to interview Myssie Cardenas-Barajas, REALTOR®, GRI®, e-Pro®, AHWD® to have her by your side in the deal.
