About Me
Meet Sylvia Ortega, a distinguished leader in Texas government and a dynamic multidisciplinary professional with over 20 years of experience in diverse sectors. Her career spans legislative affairs, public policy, property management, and business consulting. Sylvia’s journey began with a Political Science degree from St. Edward’s University and an internship at the Office of the Texas Governor, which paved the way for her rapid ascent to Chief of Staff in the Texas House of Representatives.
Her real estate expertise started with property ownership and renovation investments, while her business consulting experience was honed at Fortune 500 firms like Andersen and Deloitte. Sylvia later launched her own consulting firm, blending her legislative knowledge with innovative business solutions.
Sylvia holds a master’s degree in legal studies from Texas State University and has served as an Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M International University, where she taught Texas state government and pioneered employer apprenticeship legislation.
Her advocacy for economic development led to the creation of the Coalition for Apprenticeship Partners in Economic Development (CapEd). This initiative successfully garnered bipartisan support for legislation she designed for expanding diversified apprenticeship programs, addressing both the student loan debt crisis and the skilled labor shortage. Her resulting legislation was signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott during the 87th Legislative Session.
Sylvia’s commitment to public policy extends to her role with the Texas Realtors legislative affairs division, where she supports homeownership priorities and industry best practices. Fluent in Spanish, she also engages with international investors to foster business growth in the United States.
